Copperhead County September Check-In

Hello outlaws,

It's been a minute since the last update, so I wanted to drop a brief note. Work continues over here, although unfortunately the past month and change have been pretty shitty—between deaths in the family, COVID scares, and the ongoing toll of living in the literal worst state for COVID in this country, while people line up downtown to advocate for more death (and Andrew Jackson)... y'know, it's not too fun lately.

Still, here's some stuff:

PODCAST CORNER

A few weeks ago, I recorded a +1 Forward episode about your favorite TRPG, Copperhead County. I understand that it will probably air at some point soon? I'll post here again when it does.

MUSIC CORNER

The only thing that has given me any positive feeling about living in the South recently was attending a show where many of Nashville's finest indie musicians paid tribute to the Drive-By Truckers' Southern Rock Opera on its 20th birthday.

In more recent music news, Adia Victoria, whose song "South Gotta Change" you may have heard on the official Copperhead County playlist, has a new album out today.

BOOK CORNER

I've written here a lot lately about my love for S.A. Cosby, whose previous novel Blacktop Wasteland is probably my #1 Copperhead County novel recommendation, and whose new novel, Razorblade Tears, is also extremely good.

I also recently read and enjoyed Bearskin by James A. McLaughlin, a great Southern noir thriller with a very knowledgeable and well-drawn portrait of Appalachian's natural splendor and history.

Finally, I also enjoyed Stephen Deusner's Where the Devil Don't Stay: Traveling the South with the Drive-By Truckers, which combines a history of my favorite band with some social and geographical history of several places across the South.

GOODBYE CORNER

That's all for now.
