Copperhead County Decoration Day News

Hello outlaws,

It's Decoration Day, and I've a mind to post a news update.

May has been a productive month, in stops and starts. I've spent a good chunk of the month on the road, traveling the Southland on various bits of business, and unable to get much direct work done, but am now home and back on my grind in earnest. We're getting good writing, editing, and art done over here, and I feel good about pushing the next big update soon—at which point, the Copperhead County book will be basically text-complete, and just awaiting further art, editing, and print adjustments.

I was in Texas most of last week, which inspired my new favorite piece of art by our favorite artist, Adam Schwaninger, depicting a highway-side sign for the mega-gas station Flop-ee's and its adorable rabbit mascot. This new addition to the Copperhead Universe is mildly anachronistic, because it references something that doesn't exist yet, let alone in the game's default 2017 setting. But really, who can resist the lure of Flop-ee?

Our love of Flop-ee provides a good bridge to discuss the other big thing I've been working on (besides all the stuff I outlined last time). I've finalized the layout of the setting chapter's area entries, and in doing so have chosen Lore.

Each area entry has two new sections. The first is a list of Other Places, minor locations which you can use or reference in whatever way pleases you. I really love these dumb lists. Crime fiction needs a steady stream of bars and restaurants, and you'll get plenty of those, along with other places appropriate to the area that hopefully make Copperhead County feel like a real, living, breathing place.

The second new section is Events & Opportunities, which may be even more exciting. These events and opportunities are goings-on and job suggestions for every area in the county. They should ideally give you ready-made ideas to incorporate into a campaign and/or inspire you to devise your own adventures. Personally, I never use random tables or the like to inspire my GMing, and these are a reflection of that—I'm hoping that these will serve both as tasty fish, and as objects that can teach others to fish, as well. This section has been a long time coming—a lot of it has been outlined for a while, but didn't make it into the current book version because I wasn't quite done with them for every one of the areas. I've taken this time to complete them, and revisit and revise the earlier ones, to make them as good as they can be.

I'm really pleased with these pages being as full of as much Lore as possible. Since we're stanning Flop-ee today, let's take a look at the new, final-ish form of the Wodiga entry where Flop-ee makes his textual appearance:

That's not all of the new stuff—in addition to finishing the writeups for all of the mysterious Outside Factions, I went ahead and added two new, Tier 1 factions to the game, too. But those can wait for another, less Flop-ee-related update.

STAY TUNED

That's enough for Decoration Day. I have high hopes for this summer and the rest of the year, so stay tuned for more news and updates as they come.
